Who we say we're not.
For the longest time, I thought I wasn't an athletic person.
Why would I? I never played sports growing up, I don't have a disciplined diet, and I constantly felt out of place in a gym. But here’s the twist: I’ve been boxing for 12 years, so when do I stop telling people "I'm not athletic?"
Boxing is my haven. I fell in love with it because of how empowered I felt when I threw my first punch. It helped me understand where my power came from and how it flowed through my body. Without much effort, I found myself exploring other activities to improve my boxing—I jumped rope to improve my footwork, I did running so I could last 3-minute rounds, and I learned proper push-ups so I could keep my arms up and protect my face.
I’ve come to realize that being “athletic” isn’t about checking off boxes or fitting into a mold. It’s about discovering what moves you—what makes you feel grounded, strong, and more like yourself. For me, that’s boxing. And I would’ve never found it if I hadn’t wandered into a class just because I liked the music the teacher was blasting.
Twelve years later, boxing is no longer just a workout—it’s a way I come home to myself. It keeps me mentally steady, physically resilient, and now, it’s even becoming part of how I coach—helping people reconnect with their bodies and emotions when words fall short.
That’s the thing about alignment. It doesn’t always come from planning—it comes from listening. And following what sparks something real in you.
So, if you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit the mold, remember that your unique path is what makes you powerful.
Many of us carry these “I’m not” identities that shape how we see ourselves, and limit what we show the world. Maybe for you, it’s something like:
“I’m not creative.”
“I’m not a leader.”
“I’m not the type of person who can slow down.”
“I’m not someone who can take risks.”
If any of these resonate, or if there’s another identity you’re working towards but feel like you’re not quite there yet, I’d love to support you on that journey. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh perspective and a little guidance to help you see the strength and potential that’s already within you.
Let’s explore this together. If you’re ready to uncover and embrace your own unique path, I invite you to book a one-on-one call with me. We’ll dive into those identities, rewrite the stories, and find the gold in your journey.
